Repainting the living room

It will be done this weekend....I hope.
Dad helped me fix the bubble in the wall (oh, and the crack in the wall and the hole in the wall.....)
So if you visit me towards the end of December, you'll get to see lovely Benjamin Moore Sand Brown on the walls (Dad thought it looked like cappuccino and said he could never live with it on the walls cause he would constantly want one....)

Why do I keep doing remodeling at the end of each year??

Havasupai law suit

very interesting....a lawsuit brought by the Havasupai (Indians of the green-blue waters in the Grand Canyon) for misuse of their blood samples in a way that undermines their religion and thoughts on the world.
My tour guide at the Grand Canyon recommended a trip down to their village (and said "they will love you!) because of my affection for the color torquoise! It would be a great trip!

Indiana University

Alright, I KNOW I'm an alum but this is one of the best marketing pieces I've seen...really it's great. Watch the whole thing.

With my new, current job, I actually feel like the ad might be true!

Kim and Sara's trip to REAL AMERICA.....

......otherwise known as far, far beyond the Beltway. A few notes: much more testosterone in the "real" America, a lot of game playing (good game playing!), people with crazy hobbies like collecting pin ball machines (playing these can result in war wounds, on the upper thigh), there are marines out there that do NOT want to be in Iraq but do their duty (for which I applaud them), it's DARK way out there in the country! Girls don't have to pay for food and drinks. Nice. Apparently in REAL America, I can pass for 30! awesome. People tend to party much later than we normally do.....getting home at 5:30am is a bit rough for this not 30-year old.
Overall, fabulous time. Thank you guys!
Sara, what are your notes?

Halloween 2009

Palin costume worked out well......except for the costume contest!! I literally got booed off the stage!!! But I was actually very happy to lose. This bodes well for Tuesday.
The "Obama Moose" girl almost won. She was great.
Lots of people wanted their picture with Palin so that was fun. The moose head made the outfit. Thanks Mom and Meg for Alaska and Obama stuff, moose head and jacket---- I passed out Obama literature all night.
Sara had a great idea for her costume....miniature golf course! It was very cute.

Secret service guy was helpful:
This guy was really scary looking

And the Reno 911 guy was nice!

Sarah Palin costume??

Can people tell me if this works?
Hair up or down? I can't do her big goofy smile.....
It looks better up in real life I think, but not in the picture. Let me know.
I think I"ll make a little sign for my back which says "I can't see Russia from here" ..............any other ideas?

horoscopes

I've taken to reading them again lately and today's was hilarious! I do kind of feel like this and the descriptive picture they give in this little paragraph is funny:

Capricorn - Today, October 19, 2008
You may feel like a beetle that has been flipped on its back today, Kim. Your legs are flailing wildly in order to get you back on your feet. The harder you wiggle around, the more exhausted you become. You might consider just giving yourself a rest and waiting for a breeze to come along and push you back over. Trust that you will be back on your feet soon enough. In fact, it may be good for you to lie there motionless for a while to appreciate the humor of your situation.

Stop panicking!!!

Everyone should stop panicking....that's what helps create the problem.

Here are some ideas to show you that it's not as bad as the media makes it sound (thanks Charles Schwab) http://www.schwabinsights.com/2008_10/economy.html

Of course I'd rather be seeing Clinton and Robert Reich giving calming speeches and reassuring us but since we can't have that, how about reading an FDR fireside chat?

Thanks Anne, for this great group of pictures!

Jon Stewart - McCain

This is a great night of Jon Stewart.....the part where McCain says he knows how to get Osama bin Ladin and he'll get him....and John says "well why don't you tell us!!!????" is priceless....oh, and the "smartest people" idea...great. let's do it!

Finally.... I made a good bourhanee kadu

It's taken a few tries and I was going to give up but this last Sunday I finally got just the right mix of spices and cooking done to result in a delicious bourhanee kadu. Maybe it was the pumpkins that were causing the problem before? I got a really good one at Dupont this last Sunday so maybe that made the difference..... now I just have to work on getting the lamb spicier.

halloween approaches.....

....and I am soooo torn!! I don't know what to do. Because I totally have the older woman suit that Sarah Palin wears, have the glasses, could get the wig....AND I have the moose head to carry around. But could I really stand to BE her for a night??? or talk like her???? ugh!!
What should I do? commit to it ? maybe there is something funny and obnoxious that I could write on a piece of paper and pin to my back???

ooooohhh!!! or I could carry and pass out Obama literature!! maybe that would work!!

some past fabulous Halloweens below.....

The great schlep

Well ....so she did ok last night....and Biden did great at not letting go and showing his annoyance at some of her inane and hokey comments (it was close but he didn't).
So this morning, my new office is full of people talking about it and I just overheard a discussion of an interesting initiative
Check it out here!
Anybody going to go?
Also, there was discussion of how the polls are really not accurate because the whole "cell phone" generation hasn't been counted....they "can't be called"....so we don't know what they will do.

20th anniversary pictures

The house at Deep Creek Lake was called "Weekend at Bernie's".....it was huge and nice. We were told to make sure all the furniture was put back exactly where we found it when we arrived. None of us could understand why and we kept making jokes about "ooohhhh we better take a picture right away so we make sure we know where everything goes!" but we didn't .....and wouldn't you know it? by the middle of the first evening we (ok me) had decided to move the furniture around!

Why isn't Michelle Obama the one running??

she's awesome....

Great speach last night:

20th year of knowing the girls

wow....is all I can say. It is totally amazing to me that we survived college. Sarah's diaries were great to read and everyone's pics were fun.
- getting in the limo at Myrtle Beach with the "not Capitals"
- spending an evening traveling between 3 different bars where we met "sweater guy," "bedtime Eric," and so many others.....
- the several people who've now "found themselves" and the ones who became actors
- Regina missing out on parties cause she wasn't a Young Democrat ( we have better ones than republicans :-)

Pics to come......

GO GMU!!!

Tonemah - native americana

Just putting this up so I don't forget about this guy. I went to see his performance last week (it rained for a few minutes but he and his band handled it well) and he was really good, different. Very weird mix.....psychologist and musician? but he writes and performs good music. Told a story about a lady who had come up after a previous performance and said "I thought y'all only played flute and drum music?" On August 8 at the Indian museum performance, he had the capitol and a flag in back of him, making a great picture, and said "since I'm right in front of the capitol and free speech is ok.....I'm going to play whatever the ** I want" at which everone cheered.

REAL new job - not the pink boll worm one....

Grand Canyon Trip

First, I highly recommend Caravan Tours. Very reasonably priced, guide and bus driver were good and the people on the trip were pretty good too. You can see my Picassa Web Album by clicking on the photo in the slide show to the right.
